1983

Where it all started

Array Industries founder Rob Ernst goes through an internship at
Van den Berg Schoorsteenbouw.

1990

R.E. Industries founded, from 2D to 3D

On the 1st of August 1990 R.E. Engineering is founded by Rob Ernst. From his home office, Rob works for industrial and offshore clients such as IV Consult, Heerema and the Rotterdam Municipal Engineering Department on a freelance basis, mainly using 2D CAD. The experience gained in the offshore business lead to the R.E. Engineering’s first 3D project for the Erasmus Bridge in Rotterdam. Besides engineering jobs, Rob operates on a temporary bases as Chief Operations at Van den Berg Schoorsteenbouw.

1995

Growth through CHP and Utility markets

The first office is opened in Moordrecht and the first employee is hired. R.E. Engineering commences with engineering of CHP projects for MWM (former Deutz), with GE Jenbacher and other leading CHP companies to follow, such as Pon Power (former Geveke Motoren). On the other hand, Dutch utility companies are also finding their way to R.E. Engineering. The customer base expands and so does the team; first experience is gained with outsourcing components such as engine skids.

2001

R.E. Engineering becomes Array Engineering

R.E. Engineering relocates to offices with an adjacent workshop. The name of the company is changed to Array Engineering; Array Construction is founded as well, focusing on manufacturing.

2002

Array Engineering acquires Van den Berg Schoorsteenbouw B.V.

Array acquires Van den Berg Schoorsteenbouw. Both companies keep operating from their original premises under their own brand.

2003

Relocation to serve booming CHP market

Array Engineering and Van den Berg Schoorsteenbouw move into a shared location in Zevenhuizen, while the CHP market starts to boom. The shared location allows for a one-stop-shop approach for engineering, manufacturing and onsite installation with short lead times. Meanwhile, for both GE Jenbacher and MWM, Array Engineering is the go-to supplier for plant design as well as for manufacturing and of installation all exhaust gas systems.

2006

New workshop to accommodate further expansion; new company name

Array Construction further expands and purchases a new office with workshop in Nieuwerkerk aan den IJssel. All employees move over from Zevenhuizen to Nieuwerkerk aan den IJssel and operate under the new company name: Array Industries BV.

2008

Shift towards the industrial domain

The CHP markets is at its peak, but the forecast of a changing market demands a change of course. In order to serve a broader variety of industries, CFD software is acquired along with hiring CFD experts; the acquisition of the Pipe stress department of Holland Engineering Consultants adds pipe stress expertise to the in house engineering competences. Both the additional engineering services as well as the EN3834/2 welding certifications allows us to work for more demanding industrial clients. After Van den Berg Schoorsteenbouw B.V. also Dalsem DBM Schoorstenen B.V. is acquired, who’s activities are fully integrated in Array Industries’ activities. The changes made result in an increasing share of industrial projects, varying from vacuum ducting for a palm oil refinery to innovative projects for research companies such as TNO and ECN.

2009

Reorganization

As the predicted crisis takes shape, Rob Ernst reorganizes the company. The team changes from approx. 60 to approx. 30 employees. By focusing on adding value for the customer, Array was able to stand out in a tight market by winning projects such as a 90 meter tall flare for a refinery in Aruba and by executing our first US project.

2011

‘Entrepreneur of the year’

For his vison on his company and his strategical plans, Rob Ernst is awarded Entrepreneur of the year for Central Holland 2010

2011

Industrial quality standards

Array is the first Dutch company certified for both EN-1090 and EN-13084/7 and also receives the EN14001 certificate; all set for more upcoming industrial projects in industry.

2011

  • NOx emissions and dust control for Nuon biomass powerplant in Lelystad.
2016

Balance of Plant broadens the horizon

While the Benelux CHP market remains slow, the Russian, Canadian and American markets are emerging. Combining its experience, know-how and matching organization, Array becomes a system integrator for CHP projects. Max Motors, the GE Jenbacher distributor for the Russian market, awards Array Industries the contract for the delivery of the complete Balance of Plant for the Ovoshevod II project in Russia.
