Quench piping
Quench piping is being used for a specific application: the emergency stop situation of MRI scanners.
When an MRI scanner needs to make an emergency stop, a process called quenching is triggered. In this case, a sudden injection of absolute zero temperature substance is pumped into the magnetic coils. The heat is cooled by vaporizing liquid nitrogen. This will cause the coils to stop being superconducting and instead become resistive, eliminating the magnetic field.
During this process, helium will escape very quickly, and since helium can reach temperatures around -269 °C, a special quench pipe system must be integrated to safely guide the gases out.
High demands are made on this product. Array Industries has designed and built several quench systems and knows the ropes.
