For chimneys, the outlet height determines the dispersion, for flares this is the combination of height and optimal combustion of the flue gases. However, another device is possible to control the emission, namely the vent stack. A vent stack is used for certain flue gases that are dangerous in the base (usually CH4). Due to the special construction of the vent stack, such high speeds are achieved (sometimes up to sonic) that the gas composition is dissolved and the waste gas is made harmless (in combination with the height of the vent stack and the associated dispersion).
